About Noriday Pill
  1. What type of pill is Noriday?

Noriday is a progestogen-only contraceptive pill, otherwise known as a 'POP'. These tablets contain progestogen but no form of oestrogen. The active ingredient in Noriday is norethisterone, which is used to delay periods.

You can only buy Noriday on prescription.

What is Noriday used to treat?

Noriday is taken by women to prevent them from becoming pregnant.

When taken properly, Noriday is over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.

Noriday’s active ingredient, norethisterone, is a synthetic form of the female sex hormone progesterone.

    How does Noriday work?

A Noriday contraceptive pill works in various ways to stop a woman from becoming pregnant:

    • It thickens the fluid at your womb's entrance, making it harder for sperm to travel through to the womb.
    • It changes the lining of your womb, preventing a fertilised egg from being able to grow within it.
    • In some cases, it will stop your ovaries from releasing an egg.

You should take Noriday at the same time each day, beginning on the first day of your period.

Please note that a contraceptive pill like Noriday will only protect you from becoming pregnant. It does not work to stop you from catching sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Only condoms can do this.

    Who can take Noriday?

Do not take Noriday without speaking to your doctor first if any of the following applies to you:

    • You are allergic to norethisterone or any other medicines
    • You are currently suffering from any illness
    • You are taking any other medicine
    • You have liver tumours or active liver disease
    • You are pregnant or think you might be pregnant
    • You have ever had any acute or chronic liver diseases, such as jaundice or tumours
    • You have suffered from jaundice or pruritus during pregnancy
    • You have any unexplained vaginal bleeding
    • You have, have ever had, or think you may have any hormone-dependent cancer of the breast, cervix, vagina, or womb
    • You have heart disease, or you have had a stroke
    • You have blood clots (thrombosis)
    • You have never had a period or suffer from lack of periods
    • You have any lipid metabolism disorders
    • You have inflamed veins

Refer to the patient information leaflet for a full list of reasons why Noriday may not be suitable for you.

Can you buy Noriday over the counter?

Noriday is a prescription-only medicine (POM). You can only buy this medication if a doctor has prescribed it for you.

Can you buy Noriday online in the UK?

Noriday tablets are only available on prescription. You can buy Noriday online from Medicine Direct by completing a simple and confidential online consultation. Noriday alternatives

If you wish to try an alternative contraceptive pill, you should speak to your doctor.

    Other progestogen-only pills (POPs) include:

A combined hormonal contraceptive pill may be more suitable for you, such as Synphase or Millinette.

  2. Noriday Pill Dosage and Directions

Our pharmacists and prescribers follow NICE guidelines when prescribing Noriday.

To effectively prevent pregnancy, always take Noriday 350mcg tablets exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. Read the patient information leaflet and speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

    How to take Noriday

Take one tablet each day. Swallow the tablet whole with a drink of water.

Take Noriday each day and do not leave any gaps in between packs.

You can take Noriday at any time of day, but you must take it at the same time each day.

What if I take more tablets than I am supposed to?

Taking one extra pill should not do you any harm. However, you may feel sick, vomit, or experience vaginal bleeding or breast enlargement.

If you have taken more pills than you are supposed to, speak to a doctor as soon as possible.

What do I do if I miss a pill?

If you are any later than 3 hours in taking your pill, you may not have full protection against pregnancy. If it has been 3 hours or later since you should have taken Noriday, take the pill as soon as you remember, then take the next pill at the normal time. This may require you to take two tablets on the same day.

Continue to take the contraceptive pill as normal, but use a condom for the next seven days.

  3. Noriday Side Effects

Like all medicines, Noriday can cause side effects, although not everyone who takes it will get them.

Possible side effects of Noriday may include:

  4. Noriday Warnings and Drug interactions

Before you start taking Noriday, please make sure that you inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medication you are already taking. This includes both prescription and non-prescription medicines, herbal remedies, vitamins and supplements.

Always read the patient information leaflet to read more on medicines that interact with Noriday.

    Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Do not take Noriday if you are pregnant or think that you might be pregnant.

Contact your doctor straight away if you think you have become pregnant while taking Noriday. There is a slightly higher risk of an ectopic pregnancy if you become pregnant while taking this form of contraceptive pill.

Noriday does not stop a woman's body from producing milk. However, it is best for the baby if the mother's milk contains no trace of medicine for the first few weeks after being born.

For more information on taking Noriday when breastfeeding, see The Breastfeeding Network's website.

  5. Noriday Ingredients
