What is Beclometasone nasal spray?
Beclometasone nasal spray is a treatment for the symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, such as an itchy or runny nose. Beclometasone is a steroid nasal spray, also called a corticosteroid nasal spray, which is a class of drug that lowers inflammation in the body.
Beclometasone is used in a variety of treatments and has been used in medicine since 1972. It is currently listed on the World Health Organisation's List of Essential Medicines.
What is Beclometasone nasal spray used to treat?
This nasal spray is used to treat the symptoms of colds and hay fever, including an itchy, stuffy or runny nose and sneezing.
Beclometasone is also available to purchase as:
- Clenil Modulite inhaler for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Tablets for ulcerative colitis
- A cream or ointment to treat skin problems like psoriasis and eczema
For the nasal spray to work effectively, you will need to use it regularly. It is safe for most adults and children who are at least 16 years old to use.
Why is Beclometasone recommended for allergic rhinitis?
This medicine has been tested and found to be effective at treating allergic rhinitis. It is generally well tolerated by both adults and children, meaning you are unlikely to experience side effects.
Beclometasone can take slightly longer to work than an antihistamine nasal spray, but you will find that the effects of this medicine are longer lasting.
How does Beclometasone work?
Beclometasone is a corticosteroid medicine that closely mimics the effects of a naturally produced hormone in the body called cortisol.
This medicine works to relieve the symptoms of hay fever by reducing inflammation and mucus in the nose. These symptoms are often produced by your body in response to an allergic reaction.

Can you buy Beclometasone online in the UK?
You can buy Beclometasone online from Medicine Direct after you have filled out our online consultation form, to make sure it is suitable for you to take. A registered prescriber will assess the answers you provide. Next day delivery is available if you order by 2pm.
When you buy any medicine online, you should always make sure it is from a fully regulated pharmacy, like Medicine Direct. All of our prescribers are certified to prescribe medicine just like your GP.
Beclometasone alternatives
While it is not possible to cure hay fever, there are many different medicines available to help control the problem. Aside from Beclometasone, Medicine Direct also stocks corticosteroid nasal sprays such as Flixonase, Rhinocort Aqua and Nasonex. These sprays contain different medicines but will also work to relieve inflammation in the nasal passages.
Antihistamine tablets, nasal sprays and liquids can be ordered from our pharmacy after completing an online consultation. Antihistamines work by blocking a naturally occurring chemical in the body called histamine, which triggers allergy symptoms when you come into contact with an allergen. By preventing histamine from taking effect, you can avoid a flare-up of symptoms. Antihistamines available from Medicine Direct include Cetirizine, Loratadine and Levocetirizine.
For those that suffer from hay fever related symptoms, we recommend reading the daily UK pollen forecast.
