What are Pantoprazole tablets?
Pantoprazole belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPI's). Proton pump inhibitors work by preventing proton pumps responsible for producing stomach acid, from working at their full capacity. As a result, the production of stomach acid is reduced, and symptoms related to acid reflux are relieved.
Pantoprazole tablets are available in various doses ranging from 20mg to 40mg. Pantoprazole 40mg tablets are typically the strongest dose available.
What are Pantoprazole tablets used to treat?
Pantoprazole is generally used to treat heartburn and acid reflux and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).

Why is Pantoprazole recommended for treating acid reflux?
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, of which have been widely used to treat acid reflux since 1989.
Studies have shown pantoprazole to be effective at treating acid reflux as well as causing very few side effects. Another benefit for individuals that may be using other medicines for unrelated conditions is that propranolol has a very low drug interaction profile, meaning that it does not interact and cause many adverse effects when taken at the same time as other treatments.
Overall, the effectiveness of pantoprazole has been found to be similar to other commonly used PPI's such as Omeprazole and Lansoprazole.
How does Pantoprazole work?
Stomach acid is a natural and valuable substance needed to ensure orderly digestion. However excessive stomach acid can cause pain and inflammation of the oesophagus causing several uncomfortable symptoms which is often referred to as Acid Reflux/heartburn/indigestion.
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPIs), which work by reducing the amount of acid the stomach creates. It does this by stopping the cells in the lining of the stomach from producing too much acid and in doing so, can help to alleviate some of the symptoms caused by excessive stomach acid.
Pantoprazole 20mg and 40mg tablets are both effective treatments to reduce the symptoms of acid reflux and will typically get to work within just 1 hour.
